“The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.”
— Morrie Schwartz

I have to admit, the idea for this post came to me when I met a girl.

We were just sitting and talking. She was a friend of a friend, someone that I had never met before. Unknown to her, I had been having a rough week. Work had been stressful, and I had some other problems outside of work that were adding to the stress.

However, over the course of our conversation, my stress had slowly melted away. I went home that night feeling lifted up, brighter. Since then, I’ve seen her a few more times, and every time she leaves me with happiness that lasts for at least a couple days. I have no idea what causes this change. All I know is that she is filled with a light that is contagious, filling me up and giving me joy.

We all carry light within us.

There are days that we shine brighter, and days where our light may be dimmed. This light can uplift and support those around us, without our conscious effort. Some people radiate light bright enough to change a day from bad to good simply from their presence.

Sharing our light is not a give-and-take scenario. Everyone wins.

As we spend our days working through this life the same way that everyone else is, we need to be aware of our ability to impact others. Sometimes it’s a smile that changes their day, sometimes a compliment. Regardless of the method, helping others is the best way to impart a little bit of joy into their lives and release a little bit of their stress.

“There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved.”
— George Sand

No one is immune to the darkness. Be a light for those in need.
