Inches From Death

A short story of a near death experience.

Every now and then I jerk awake, flailing, grasping, falling through the sheets, scrambling to find something, anything, to hold, to stop my fall. My grip gives out and instantly fear overcomes me. I wake sweat soaked, heart racing and blood pounding. My hand has been bruised trying to save myself, flailing for an imagined hand hold and smacking the nightstand…
